I’m Gemma O’Neill and it’s my pleasure to guide you through the sometimes scary world of negotiation.
I believe that negotiation is the lynch pin to having strong financial acumen, and the life you want, but it is heavily linked to our perception of value and a lot of the time to self-value, which is why it’s something a lot of people (and particularly women) can struggle with. Don’t worry, I’m going to give you the tools to overcome the fear and get you what you deserve!
So how do I even know what I’m talking about when it comes to negotiation?!
My career background has been in corporate media and entertainment – often working in highly stressful roles with high profile people, companies and boards. I was a producer for years in Australia and the UK. I also worked in film spending 8 years in the US working with my dear friend Nicole Kidman. I worked in New Zealand as Chief Content Officer for the largest media company there, I was Head of a radio network in Australia and I’ve had my own talent management company. I did a Senior Executive MBA in my 30’s (negotiation was my favourite subject!), I’ve done the company directors course in Australia and I’ve also done the Harvard negotiation mastery certification.
My career experience has meant that I’ve been around many negotiations my whole career whether that is film rights, international rights, syndication rights, talent contracts, endorsement deals or of course also I’ve had plenty of negotiations in my personal life be it my own salary over the years, buying and selling property, mortgage interest rates, my divorce settlement and plenty more.
More recently here in Australia I was part of a very complex negotiation for the Kyle and Jackie O radio show, along with Kyle’s manager Bruno, which resulted in the highest paid amount in entertainment history in Australia.
